The Cleveland-based Cinematic Symphony Orchestra was founded nearly three years ago by Dr. Andrew Keller, as its name suggests, to perform movie music. It claims that it’s “one of the world’s only professional-caliber orchestras devoted solely to the art of movie soundtrack music.” And with the number of outstanding freelance classical musicians in this area that’s probably not an idle boast.
Last March it presented a show at Playhouse Square’s State Theatre featuring music from Hollywood blockbusters including Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Top Gun, Mission Impossible, Superman vs. Batman and more. It’s now bringing that music south to the Akron Civic Theatre where it will reprise the movie music listed above surrounded by the intricate Moorish décor and starry night-sky ceiling of this historic theater.
And just as it was in Cleveland, the orchestra will be joined by Akron-based instrumental rock guitarist Neil Zaza, who has toured nationally and international in Asia and Europe. He’ll be adding some rock & roll fire and aggression to the already heart-stopping pieces.
