More and more, video games have become a prime outlet for the work of talented composers as they produce distinctive, recognizable soundtracks for popular games. And the northeast Ohio-based Video Game Symphony specializes in presenting professional-caliber performances of this music.
The Video Game Symphony will return this Severance Hall on Sunday August 23 with a program called “Choose Your Character!” More than 100 musicians — a full symphony orchestra and chorus — will perform music from across the history of video games, games such as Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros. Pokémon, Kirby, World of Warcraft, The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy VII, The Last of Us and many more. And guest artist 88bit will join the orchestra to help it interpret this classic music.
There’s even more fun available for video game geeks. From 1:30-3pm there pre-show experiences features a geek market with art, collectibles and more. There’s also a Super Star Cosplay Contest (pre-register required here) where the orchestra will play music associated with each character while the audience votes in child, teen and adult categories. Did we mention everyone is encouraged to come in costume if they choose whether they’re taking part in the contest or not?
