There are few bands currently in the local music scene that are more fun that Da Land Brass Band. The band was formed ten years ago by charismatic front man trombone player Dr. William Washington, along with sax player Kyle Sherepita and drummer Liam Smith to play New Orleans-style jazz-based parade music with a funky beat. With its seven horn players and two percussionist/drummers, it’s always guaranteed to get the party — and the dancing — started.
Da Land Brass Band concludes this year’s Wade Oval Wednesdays, sending them out with a blast. That blast will be of an even greater magnitude due to the opening ensemble: the celebrated Shaw High School Marching Band. As usual, the Pickup Stix Stilt Walkers will be on hand for you to take selfies with, and Hula Hopes with Gerri will have a multitude of colorful hoops for all ages to spin around their waists. And there’ll be more than a dozen food and drink vendors of various types, as well as tables from local organizations and businesses.
Come down, bring friends and family, and [gulp] say goodbye to summer.
