The story has been hard to miss: it’s been circulating in NE Ohio for months and just hit the national media last week. Congressman Max Miller, representing parts of western and southern northeast Ohio, has been accused of violence against multiple women including his estranged wife, going as far back as his years at Shaker Heights High School. He’s vehemently denied the charges, and Republicans, who were practically drooling when Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner was accused of rape (he quickly withdrew from the race), are largely mute, clearly putting their vote total before integrity and morals. He is insisting he will stay put and that his ex-wife is crazy (This will sound familiar to many women).
And he wants to limit the ability of voters to toss him out. This week, he’ll be having a public event — a rarity for GOP congresspeople these days — at the Barn at Mapleside in Brunswick. He’ll be hosting Florida Congresswoman Anna Pauline Luna to talk about the so-called SAVE Act, a piece of federal legislation being sold as a “Voter ID” bill. In reality, it includes onerous proof-of-citizenship requirements and restrictions on vote-by-mail that would likely disenfranchise millions. It’s also likely unconstitutional since running elections is explicitly reserved for the states in the U.S. Constitution.
