Cleveland Heights’ Cedar-Fairmount Festival Offers an Afternoon of Family-Friendly Activities

Every year for more than two decades, Cleveland Heights’ gateway neighborhood, Cedar-Fairmount, located at the top of Cedar Hill, has celebrated its annual summer festival. And it will do so again this weekend for the 21st time.

The Sunday afternoon event features activities all over district which is packed with restaurants, bars and small business. Many of them will take place on the sidewalks around them, where there’ll be tables from around two dozen businesses, nonprofits, arts organizations and other community groups offering information and conversation. They include groups such as Ensemble and Dobama theaters, the Heights Bicycle Coalition, Heights Tree People, Heights Arts, the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District, and the Mayan Indigenous Women’s Cooperative.

In the municipal parking lot behind Firestone, you can board the Rocket Ship Car for a jaunt around the neighborhood, browse artisan vendors at the Indie Green Market, check out a Cleveland Heights fire truck and police squad car, and enjoy performances by teens from Wizbang Teen Circus. Across the street at the Ascent Pocket Park, veteran Cleveland jump/blues/swing/R&B band Blue Lunch with play at 1pm, with Tony Quarles & the Discovery Band starting at 2:15. There will also be multiple short performances by Art Act’s giant puppets, pickup stix Stilt Walkers and socks tie-dying with Indi Art House. Cleveland Heights Church will be hosting games for kids — parents can take part too.
