N.K. Jemisin is a Brooklyn, New York-based author of bestselling fantasy and speculative fiction novels and the first African-American author to win the Hugo Award for Best [science fiction] Novel, and then to win it three years in a row.
Trained as a mental health/career counselor, she had published some short stories before her debut novel The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms came out in 2010. She’s published nine more since then, collecting numerous awards and building a loyal following for her work, in which her own identity shapes themes of identity and oppression and gives her books a distinctively viewpoint in a genre dominated by white men, including some on the far right.
Jemisin is the next author to be presented by the Cuyahoga County Public Library in its William N. Skirball Writers Center Stage series. The talk takes place at the Maltz Performing Arts Center and will be followed by a book signing. Get tickets here.
