 the first African-American author to win the Hugo Award for Best [science 
 fiction] Novel\, and then to win it three years in a row.\nTrained as a me
 ntal health/career counselor\, she had published some short stories before
  her debut novel The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms came out in 2010. She’s p
 ublished nine more since then\, collecting numerous awards and building a 
 loyal following for her work\, in which her own identity shapes themes of 
 identity and oppression and gives her books a distinctively viewpoint in a
  genre dominated by white men\, including some on the far right.\nJemisin 
 is the next author to be presented by the Cuyahoga County Public Library i
 n its William N. Skirball Writers Center Stage series. The talk takes plac
