Fellow Local Musicians Celebrate the Music of Singer/Pianist Rachel Brown

Sun 4/26 @ 7PM

For about a decade and a half, singer/songwriter/guitarist Alex Bevan, along with fellow (retired) musician Charlie Wiener, has been co-hosting a series of “In Celebration of” shows, mostly at the Beachland Ballroom, paying tribute to musicians who have had a major influence in the Northeast Ohio music scene. They’ve included tributes to artist such as Michael Stanley, I-Tal founder Dave Smeltz, Carlos Jones, early ’80s pop band The Generators, the Numbers Band and more.

This time, they’re feting a musician who is still very active in the local music scene — Lorain County-based singer/pianist/educator Rachel Brown who performs with her band of seasoned veterans the Beatnik Playboys. She’s known especially for her sultry vocals that blend folk, pop, blues, jazz and country influences, with overtones of singers from Patsy Cline to Sarah Vaughan, blended in her own distinctive style.

The musicians who’ll be honoring her include Bevan, Bent String, Jeff Varga, Kristine Jackson, Cary Mathews, Brent Kirby, Becky Boyd, Robert and Jack Kidney of the Numbers Band, Mark Freeman and the Elders and special guest Andy Leach, along with the Beatnik Playboys.

It’s a primarily seated, general admission show. Get tickets here. Money raised benefits Cleveland Rocks: Past Present Future, who offers programs to help Cleveland-area musicians advance their careers.
