The Fairport Marine Museum and Lighthouse at 129 2nd Street in Fairport Harbor commands views of the harbor and is surrounded by an open grassy park. This small Lake Erie town is a good stop during a tour of wineries when taste buds have become overtaxed. Visit the lighthouse that operated for one hundred years (1825-1925) from May 1 to November and go up into the sixty-foot tower and view Lake Erie from the observation platform. The original tower, which stood at thirty feet, and the keeper’s house were rebuilt in 1871. The original light was replaced with a combination light and foghorn station in 1925. The museum displays artifacts and maritime exhibits, and the former pilothouse from the Great Lakes carrier Frontenac is attached to the museum.
