We’re in the midst of the big ethnic church festival season, and this week, you can take in Armenian culture at the St. Gregory of Narek Armenian Church in Richmond Heights.
As we’ve noted any times, the highlight of all such festivals is the homemade food, generally made by the parishioners of the church. And this festival will offer everything from lamb kabob with rice pilaf to Armenian dessert such as pakhlava (yes, it’s their version of baklava), gatah and simit. They promise vegetarian and vegan dishes as well. Things have really changed since the 70s when it was tough to be a vegetarian in Cleveland!
But there IS more than food. Armenian musician Mher Mnatsakanyan performs on Saturday, and the Narekatsi Dance Group will do multiple performances on both Friday evening and all day Saturday. There’ll be a boutique where you can buy Armenia-made products and there’ll also be special activities for the kids.
Everything takes place outside so pray for nice weather. Both parking and admission are free. Go here for more information.
