River Rally Showcases Recreational Options by the Cuyahoga

Sat 8/9 @ 10AM-5PM

The Cuyahoga River is one of Cleveland’s two great water assets, perhaps less celebrated than its lake. But as it’s become cleaned up over the last several decades, recreational use in and around it has exploded.

The annual River Rally gives people the opportunity to discover some of the current activities that revolve around the river. On the water, there are free boat tours on the Holiday boat, free kayak excursions and free dragon boat lessons from the Cleveland Dragon Boat Association which hosts an annual festival (September 6 this year) showcasing these colorful vessels with their large teams of rowers.

Around the water the county’s Fresh Water Institute will be giving walking tours; the Greater Cleveland Aquarium will offer birding walking tours; and Bike Cleveland will be leading “Where the River Burned” bike tours. Also on the banks will be river-focused improv poetry, kids’ crafts using recycled materials courtesy of Upcycle Parts Shop, a native fish touch tank from the Cleveland Metroparks, and live music, with Moises Borges (noon), Napsack (1:30) and Emergence Ensemble (2:30). The bike and kayak tours require advance registration. Everything else is walk up and enjoy. Everything is free.
