The Cleveland Print Room, which moved out of its former space in the Artcraft Building in 2023, has been nomadic and/or virtual since then. However, it quickly announced the acquisition of its new space, a former industrial laundry building located on the southeast corner of Lexington and East 47th, across the street from the Morgan Conservatory.
Supporters have had the chance to peek inside at a couple of gathering, but much fundraising needs to be done before the work on remediated it and fixing it up could begin to build out the darkroom, galleries public green space and more. Luckily, the grants have arrived and the former work has just started, and CPR has just announced “Project Lexington,” CPR’s move into a former industrial laundry on the near East Side. It is soon to become home to the darkroom, gallery, public green space, and much more.
They say, “It’s far from glossy. It’s not a developer’s dream. It’s not the brainchild of philanthropy.
It has been the work of this team. Here at summer’s end, we’re launching a campaign. The goal: build a groundswell through our network. We need to tell this story—and continue to add to the people who believe in it.”
They tell us they already have quite a bit of money in the bank from government, economic development tools, and philanthropy, but they need to raise more to make the dream come true.
And they’re just asking their supporters to step up. “There will be no galas nor gowns. There will be no paddle bidding nor silent auctions. We are looking to connect with our people [and their people]. And we are looking to do that in smart, direct ways that allow the project and this work to drive the dialogue.”
