Apollo's Fire Concerts Feature Dueling Concertos

Fri 8/8 @ 7:30PM

Sat 8/9 @ 3PM & 7:30PM

Sun 8/10 @ 4PM

It’s unusual to get a late summer program from Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s Baroque Orchestra, an off-season for the group between its early summer outdoor concerts and its regular fall-to-spring series. But this week it’ll perform a series of four concerts called “Fencing Match,” that add a little friendly conflict to the music.

Apollo’s Fire founder/artistic director will lead the musicians in a duel of baroque concertos by J.S. Bach (Concerto for Two Violins), Antonio Vivaldi and Georg Philipp Telemann (Concerto for Flute and Recorder). The program also includes René Schiffer and a suite by Jean-Philippe Rameau. It spotlights some of the orchestra’s musicians including violinists Alan Choo and Susanna Perry Gilmore, recorder player Daphna Mor, viola da gambist Rebecca Landell, cellist Rene Schiffer, and flutist Kathie Stewart.

They’ll perform at the Bath Church UCC on Friday August 8; at Case Western Reserve University’s Harkness Chapel for an afternoon and evening concert on Saturday August 9, and at Rocky River Presbyterian Church on Sunday August 10.
