Tri-C Jazz Fest, which occupies Playhouse Square for a weekend at the end of June, is a festival for everybody. While the ticketed concerts in the theaters give serious jazz lovers the chance to catch a variety of musicians from rising stars to jazz legends, the free outdoor festival on the street attracts music fans, dancers, families, and those who just love good festival environment. For two days its big stage hosts topnotch local bands playing everything from traditional jazz to gospel to reggae to Latin music, while its Next Gen stage gives the teens from the Tri-C JazzFest Academy a chance to shine and soak in applause. When the dancers are spinning by the stage and the scene of freshly cooked food wafts over the intersection, it’s a little piece of heaven. Even he dogs had a good time!
