Bainbridge Swing Dance Offers an Extra Hour of Dancing with "Electro Swing"

Sat 6/7 @ 7PM

The monthly Bainbridge Swing Dances typically feature a rootsy, Americana band from the region playing live danceable music, usually with a retro flavor. This month, they’re doing something a little different.

You’ll still get the live music, this month from Cleveland’s Burning River Swing, who will play swing, blues and ’30s-style Parisian “hot” jazz to get the dance floor hopping, with classically trained vocalist Kara Scott fronting the ensemble (She’s a swing dancer herself so she has the right vibe!)

Things start at 7pm with the usual one-hour dance lesson that brings newbies up to speed, before dancing to live music starts at 8pm. But then things keep going for those who aren’t all tuckered out: from 10-11pm there’s an hour of recorded “Electro Swing,” described as “an electronic dance music genre that combines the influence of vintage or modern swing and jazz mixed with house and hip hop.”  They’ll enhance it will special effects including black lights, strobes and lasers – be warned if you’re sensitive to any of that stuff.

As usual you can come with a partner, by yourself or with your family (it’s all-ages friendly) because at swing dances, you keep changing partners all night, getting to meet and socialize with new people.

Doors open at 6:30. Admission is $20, $10 for kids 12 and under, $50 for a family. Pay at the door with cash or a personal check. It takes place ,as always, at the Family Life Center in Chagrin Falls. Go here for more info.
