In week three of its annual DanceWorks series, which offers both new and legacy ensembles in a variety of dance styles, Cleveland Public Theatre presents the Blakk Jakk Dance Collective.
Blakk Jakk is one of the babies among the troupes performing founded as a community project-based dance company in the summer of 2020 when the pandemic had shut down most communities. Founder RonDale Simpson’s goal was to improve the skills of dancers of color and build a network of dancers to blend styles such as hip-hop, modern, Afrobeat, HBCU-style dance, and movement that explored ancestral connections to Africa.
