Local singer/actor Mary Bridget Davies is a versatile performer, but she built a career on her powerful embodiment of the late rock star Janis Joplin.
Davies was singing the blues in area clubs and acting with local theater groups when she got her big break, performing the title role of Janis Joplin in the touring production of the show Love, Janis. Later she headed for New York City where she took on the same role in the jukebox musical A Night With Janis Joplin off-Broadway and late on Broadway. She performed the same role in London’s West End
But long before she slipped into Joplin’s skin, Davies established her own identity as an accomplished blues/rock vocalist who can do more than imitate. When she performs her show Mary Bridget Davies Live In Concert: Janis to Alanis for two nights at the Beck Center, she and her band will share some of those iconic Joplin performances, as well as her versions of songs by Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Melissa Etheridge, Alanis Morissette and others.
If that’s not enough Mary Bridget Davies for you, you can look forward to seeing her in the Beck Center’s holiday production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, reprising her role as the narrator. That show runs December 6-January 5.
