One of the newer gardens at the Cleveland Cultural Gardens in Rockefeller Park is the Peruvian Garden, which is still on the drawing board.
The Peruvian Cultural Association of Northeast Ohio (PERUCAN-OH), says, “Our goal is to create a place that celebrates our history, creativity, and contributions through the centuries — from the pre-Inca civilizations to modern times. A place where we can feature architecture reminiscent of the Nazca Lines and Machu Picchu, among others. A place where we can provide a platform for events that showcase the works of world-renowned Peruvian craftsmen, artists, writers, and musicians.”
To help move these plans forward, PERUCAN-OH is hosting its second annual dinner and gala, called “Traditions of Peru.” Taking place at the Tremont City Side Ballroom (adjacent to Annunciation Greek Church), the event will offer guests Peruvian foods and a taste of the country’s music and dance culture with the Luka y Ropa Vieja band and traditional dance performances. In addition, there’ll be a keynote speech by Peruvian writer, publisher and journalist Ani Palacios, and a silent auction to raise additional money.
