CPT Presents World Premiere by Akron Playwright

Thu 10/19-Sat 11/4

Cleveland Public Theatre’s upcoming production, Jaiie Dayo Aliya’s Our Lady of Common Sorrows, is an example of how CPT develops works. The show, by the playwright/actor who’s also artistic director of Akron’s Ma-Sue Productions, was a hit at its Test Flight 2023 workshop series where it almost sold out its run, so now it’s moved on to its world premiere production in the James Levin Theatre.

The synopsis tells us, “The assumed immaculate conception of a 15-year-old honor student incites a crisis of faith for her family. Playwright Jaiie Dayo Aliya takes us on a psychedelic ride where reality dances with fantasy, everyone is suspect, and big questions are asked about God, faith, and the value of life.”

The play previews on October 19 and 20 with an opening night post-show party with the cast on October 21. Then it will be performed Thursday-Saturday with two Sunday performances and Monday October 30 (which includes a pre-show pop-up market) through Saturday November 4. All CPT shows are “pay what you choose.” Reserve tickets here.
