Thursdays 5/18-8/31 @ 5-8PM

Once again, the Cleveland Metroparks is diving into concerts, with a (almost) full music schedule. Concerts take place on Thursday, starting May 18 and running through August 31 at seven locations — and yes, the popular Edgewater Beach concerts are back.

The concerts kick off on May 18 at the Emerald Necklace Marina at the Rocky River Reservation with the Latin jazz of Sammy DeLeon and his band. It’s a perfect starter for summer, as DeLeon and his crew never fail to get a crowd up and dancing with their lively Puerto Rican vibe.

Concerts will also take place at the East 55th Street Marina (May 25, June 29 and August 10), Huntington Beach (June 1), Merwin’s Wharf (June 15, July 13, August 3), the Historical Coast Guard Station (June 22, July 27) and Euclid Beach (July 20, August 17). They’re back at the Emerald Necklace Marina on August 29.

The Edgewater dates are June 8 when the popular update reggae ensemble Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band is sure to pack the beach if the weather is nice; July 6 and concluding the season on August 31.

While most of the bands are some variation of a cover band, with ’70s and ’80s tunes the most popular, the series also includes singer/songwriter Michelle Romary’s rootsy pop (Huntington Beach June 1), the new-on-the-scene funksters Shoreline Funk All Stars (Merwin’s Wharf, June 15), another long-running reggae group Jah  Messengers (Euclid Beach, July 20) and the red-hot Apostle Jones’ own R&B-inflected rock (Emerald Necklace Marina, August 24).
