From Elvis to the Beatles to the Rolling Stones to David Bowie to Madonna, rock stars influenced how their fans dressed, setting styles for their youthful base. The gowns and matching suits of the Motown artists spoke of their upward aspirations. Queen, Stevie Nicks, Cyndi Lauper, Blondie, the Clash — all are known for both their music and their look.

And this month Cleveland Rocks: Past, Present and Future is taking a look at rock & roll fashion in Cleveland with its photo exhibit Fashion Rocks, currently on view at the Space: ROCK Gallery on Waterloo, and a gala runway fashion show at the Beachland Ballroom on Wednesday June 29 @ 7:30-10pm.

The looks of today’s bands run the gamut, from designer couture to thrift shop clothes. Cleveland designer Jacci Hammer, who is part of the Ingeneers team at Cleveland’s Ingenuity Labs, has worked with many Cleveland artists, and has designed and coordinated looks they’ll be modeling for a spectacular evening of runway style.

Models include Daddy Longlegs Homegrown Revival, Duo Decibel System, Apostle Jones, Composer Smith & friends, Michael McFarland & Messmaker, Meganne Stepka, Kennedy Nagel, Fiercely Serene, and Gwen “Lady Blue” Coates, wearing fashion by Hammer herself, RJ Luna Haute Clothier and Natural Roots boutique. The production team includes Jedi Light & Sound, Ross Bochnek, Michael McFarland, Michael Harms, JT Thomas and Andrew Kaletta. Ingenuity Cleveland artist Jessica Sheeran will make a special appearance. The Fashion Rocks fashion show is being presented in cooperation with Haute Ohio magazine.
