Northeast Ohio professional vocal group Quire Cleveland will take listeners around the world to visit great cathedrals in eight cities on a musical grand tour.
Its program Resonant Glory: Music for Grand Spaces features music by composers from the early 16th century through the mid-20th century who wrote music for specific spaces in Paris, Munich, Venice, Rome, Mexico City, Leipzig, Cambridge and London. Composers include J.S. Bach and Ralph Vaughan Williams, as well as many lesser-known writers.
“As the earth begins its return to life after the long winter, this Quire Cleveland concert series will offer musical splendor to awaken the soul, highlighting double choir treasures and works in which grand spaces truly live,” says the group’s promotion for the program.
They’ll perform on Friday May 13 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland; on Saturday May 14 at St. Noel Church in Willoughby Hills; and on Sunday May 15 at St. Sebastian Church in West Akron.
The performances are free, but a freewill donation will be taken with a suggested donation of $25. Go here for more information, including a full program.
