The Great Geauga County Fair Offers a Year’s Worth of Activities in Five Days

Thu 9/2-Mon 9/6

They don’t call it The Great Geauga County Fair (its official name) for nothing.

This fair, now in its 199th year, is ENORMOUS. You’ll need to reference your map frequently to navigate all the rides, games, food options, exhibit barns, demonstrations, info tents hosted by various organizations, and other activities, or you might get overwhelmed. There’s even a 4-H 5K and Fun Run for early risers on Sunday September 5 that begins and ends at the fair grandstand. The Great Geauga Fair Band, a tradition since the 1930s, performs each day. Get ready to spend a day — or two.

There’s chicken flying contests, horse shows, trapping, woodcarving and robotic demonstrations, a sea lion splash, dog competitions, youth fishing, a magic show, an apple pie auction and a rooster-crowing contest. There’s plenty of grandstand action too, with drag racing, demolition derbies, a truck and tractor pull, harness horse racing, and the Broken Horn rodeo on the final day. We don’t know if they’ll still have that booth selling giant wall hangings of Donald Trump’s face on Rambo’s body, but we wouldn’t be surprised. Something for everyone!

It all takes place at the fairgrounds in Burton, which, as you would suspect, is HUGE.
