Together, Andrew Pongracz and Mell Csicsila are Duo Anime, a percussion ensemble, which performs contemporary percussion compositions, new works they’ve commissioned and transcriptions of classical music from the last 300 years written for other instruments. They play music by composers such as Daniel Dorff, Bertold Hummel, Karl Kohn, Marta Ptaszynska, Wayne Siegel and Nancy Van de Vate.
The duo met at Cleveland State University and have continued performing together, as well as backing other musicians, including stars like Aretha Franklin, Yes and The Who. They’ve performed in percussion sessions for local orchestra and for many music organizations around northeast Ohio. Now they’ll be doing a free concert at Cain Park’s Evans Amphitheater as part of its Tuesday evening local music series. No reservations are required.
