Lake Erie Islands Celebrate Island Green Week

Sat 8/7-Sun 8/14

Once again, the Lake Erie Islands are celebrating “Island Green Week” from Sunday August 7 through Sunday August 14.

If you’re interested in protecting the environment, there’s a lot to interest you anytime. On Put-in-Bay, there’s the Aquatic Visitor Center, which welcomes visitors daily to learn about Lake Erie’s ecosystem, as well as the Lake Erie Island Nature & Wildlife Center. And there are the twice-weekly tours to Gibraltar Island, a short water taxis ride off Put-in-Bay where Ohio State University’s Stone Lab is located; tours are available Mondays and Thursdays through August 30.

And there are lots of forest trails and state parks to hike, and the Lake Erie Islands Conservancy will dedicate a new preserve, Benjamin Woods, at Put-in-Bay on Monday August 8.

Other activities include a Lantern Tour of the Historic Hotel Victory Grounds (August 8), the Miller Ferry Stargazing Cruise (August 9), Wild Tuesday to educate about wildlife in the islands (live animals will be present!) (August 9), a Nature and Geology Walk at the Massie Cliff Preserve (August 12), Painting at the Park (August 13), Historic South Bass Island Lighthouse Tours (August 13) and the Lake Erie Islands Nature & Wildlife Center ribbon-cutting for its new addition (August 15).

And the Miller Ferry is offering a discount on its already cheap tickets so take the entire family and some friends as well.
