Artist Reflects on Her Relationship With Her Mother in Cle Print Room Show

Fri 6/4 @ 5-8PM

DaShaunae Marisa Jackson was a Cleveland Foundation Minority Arts and Education Fund grant recipient and a 2020 fellow at the Cleveland Print Room.

She has produced a body of work called No Woman Is An Island: Works by DaShaunae Marisa Jackson, which will open with a gallery reception Friday June 4 @ 5-8pm and will be available for gallery viewing by appointment starting Saturday June 5.

The show revolves around the death of her mother from cancer last May at the age of 49, and how that changed her complicated and often fraught relationship with her mother and her family. She also reflects on how a lifestyle driven by society’s racism impacts the health of African Americans.
