Yeah, it’s disappointing that month after month the Cleveland Museum of Art’s MIX parties, intended to draw a diverse crowd into the building for a party that engages people in all CMA has to offer is taking place only in people’s individual living rooms. But it sure is better than nothing, and you can make your own party at home with the music and visuals provided by the museum.

This month’s theme is Amplify, being presented in partnership with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. It celebrates the different ways in which music and art addressing racism and social justice, inspired by the recently opened exhibit at the Rock Hall, It’s Been Said All Along: Voices of Rage, Hope and Empowerment, which looks at how African-American musicians have engaged in the fight for equal rights and justice.

Nationally noted singer/songwriter/producer Vikter Duplaix, who has released a couple of solo albums and performed on albums by artists such as Eric Benet, Ekykah Badu, King Britt and Jazzanova, will be providing a live DJ set. Cleveland-based choreographer Samuel McIntosh of 10K Movement will demonstrate different styles of street dance, and Wil Frierson will show his video art. And they are also promising there will “special guests.” You can even join the Zoom party and maybe even be shown live on the “dance cam.” A link will be posted on the MIX page.

To give you everything you need for that at-home party, CMA has thoughtfully provided the MIX: Amplify virtual kit. You can learn more about the artists, as well as the Rock Hall exhibit, get curated song lists from Duplaix and the Rock Hall, download Zoom background backgrounds by Frierson, get restaurant recommendations for ordering food and cocktail recipes to go with them. And its community partner Cleveland VOTES will offer all the information you need to vote this year — and undoubtedly remind you that the last day to register to vote in the November election is October 5 — this coming Monday.
