New Healthy Eating Nonprofit Food Strong Holds Benefit at Lago in the Flats

Thu 9/19 @ 6PM

When you read that 70% of Americans are overweight or obese, it’s good to hear about new organizations dedicated to helping people eat healthier. So we were happy to learn about Food Strong, founded by Sara Continenza a little more than three years ago. She partnered with other organizations to start a school garden program and the Care-a-Van initiative, which takes wellness resources and arts-related activities to farmers markets and community events. She’s got other programs in the pipeline to expand the group’s mission to improve access to fresh, local foods and educate people about how good they taste in addition to how good they are for your health.

The upcoming Cornucopia benefit, taking place on the Veranda at Lago Custom Events on the East Bank of the Flats, will help bring some of these projects into being. It’s a three-tiered party, starting with a VIP reception from 5-6:30pm taking place at Lago’s Penthouse, with drinks and hors d’oeuvres, plus admission to the main event and half off drinks at the afterparty.

The main event from 6:30-9pm feature full dinner service, unlimited appetizers and drinks. Finally, the afterparty from 9:30pm-2:30am, features music provided by DJs Groovehaus, SmuthPik, SJ SquareBiz and Refresh Collective artists and students, with Refresh Collective founder Dee Jay Doc Harrill emceeing. And you get half off all drinks with a donation of at least $10.

VIP tickets are $150; tickets for the dinner are $100; general admission is $50 in advance or $60 day of event.
