Eat and Polka Yourself to Paradise @ the Slovenian Sausage Festival

Frank Azman of Cleveland’s Azman and Sons Meat Market competes at the 16th annual Slovenian Sausage Festival at SNPJ Farm in Kirtland.

Wed 9/11 @ 1-8PM

Polka and sausage! What speaks more clearly about the eastern European ethnic roots of greater Cleveland? And you can celebrate both at the 16th Annual Slovenian Sausage Festival, hosted by the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame, at the SNPJ Farm in Kirtland.

The event features seven hours of food and dancing to polka bands, definitely a saturation level of both. Guests can sample sausages from each vendor present and then vote for their favorite for the People’s Choice winner. There’s also a juried Best of Fest category and the prize is valuable: the winner gets to be the supplier for the annual Thanksgiving Polka Weekend at the downtown Marrioot. Side dishes, desserts and drinks are also available.

And the music! More than 50 musicians will be participating, with even more joining in the jam session — bring your squeezebox and be one of them! Scheduled to play are Canadian polka king Walter Ostanek, Rob DeBlander, Joe Godina, Ron Likovic, Frank Stanger, Anthony Culkar, Patty C and the Guys, the Fairport Jammers and a special Polka Hall of Fame All-Star orchestra.

Tickets are $10 in advance available from the Polka Hall of Fame. They’re $12 at the door.
