Out-of-Town Skaters Join Burning River Roller Derby for Scrimmage

 Have you checked out roller derby yet? Cleveland’s women’s flat-track roller derby league, the Burning River Roller Derby, is offering something a bit different that gives fans an opportunity to check out what it’s all about.

The Fire on the Lake: Burning River Scrimmages features skaters from different leagues that are part of Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Skaters will be assigned at random to red, orange and white teams to play a series of 45-minute round-robin games, with each team playing two bouts, for a total of three face-offs.

Skaters are coming from leagues in Seattle, Cincinnati, Dayton, Indianapolis, Davenport, Iowa and Shelby Charter Township, Michigan. It’s a great chance to see the ladies having some fun and showing off their skills.

You can sit in the bleachers or bring your own chair to the event which takes place at he C.E. Orr Ice Arena in Euclid. Doors open at 1pm; skating starts at 2:30. There’ll be an awards ceremony around 6. Tickets are $5 at the door. Kids 5 and under are free.
