The 1974 romantic drama/comedy Claudine, starring Diahann Carroll and James Earl Jones, takes a sobering look at poverty and the welfare system, and how hard work and good intentions still leave people struggling to get by. But the stress of trying to care for multiple children on a tiny income and constant threatened welfare assistance doesn’t obliterate their sense of humor or their love.
The film will screen at Karamu House as part of its summer matinee series. Admission is $5.
