Cleveland Orchestra Hosts 18-Year-Old Violinist & 23-Year-Old Conductor at Blossom

Sat 7/20 @ 8PM

Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1, first performed in 1886, is a familiar piece to classical concertgoers. It’s the piece the German composer is probably best known for. So it’s right in line with the Cleveland Orchestra’s tendency to book much-loved works the audience knows during its summer residency at Blossom Music Center.

What will be fresh and eye-opening is the soloist: 18-year-old Swedish violinist Daniel Lozakovich, who made his concerto debut at the age of 8 and released his debut album last year, shortly after his 17th birthday. Interestingly, neither of his parents is a musician as is typical of prodigies.

He’s making his Cleveland Orchestra debut at this concert, which will be conducted by another prodigy: 23-year-old Finn Klaus Mäkelä, recently named chief conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic. Glimpse classical music’s future!

The program also includes Zoltán Kodály’s Dances of Galánta, and appropriately Finnish composer Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5.

Tickets range from $25-$89.
