Akron Art Museum Celebrates Art Museum Day

Thu 5/16 @ 11AM-6PM

The 10th Annual Art Museum Day is right around the corner and celebrated in Akron on Thu 5/16 @ 11am-9pm. In addition to free entry, programs for kids and families will keep attendees engaged — including Kids After-School Mind-Unwind from 4-6pm, and a tour of African-American artists in the museum collection, led by Chief Curator Ellen Rudolph from 6:30-7:30pm.

Free admission and special programming are just two  aspects of Art Museum Day. Organized by the Association of Art Museum Directors, this holiday also hopes to underscore the ways in which art museums foster community, providing crucial opportunities for visitors of all ages to learn and be inspired by the limitlessness of what centuries of peoples and cultures have created.

Akron Art Museum’s John S. Knight Director and CEO Mark Masuoka said, “Art Museum Day is one of many ways that we express and back up our belief that art is for everyone. As an institution, the Akron Art Museum continues to expand access to meaningful, relevant art experiences to everyone in our community, because we understand the value of those experiences to people’s lives. We are especially excited to welcome visitors in on Art Museum Day because they will be able to experience our stellar exhibitions, Nick Cave: Feat., Mernet Larsen: The Ordinary, Reoriented and Joe Vitone: Family Records — to say nothing of the masterpieces in the museum’s collection galleries.”
