The Punch Brothers, a progressive bluegrass quintet which has been together for 12 years, has made its reputation by mingling two types of virtuosity: bluegrass and classical music.
Members include Nickel Creek multi-instrumentalist/A Prairie Home Companion host Chris Thile, former Leftover Salmon member Noam Pikelny, guitarist Chris Eldridge, co-founder of the Infamous Stringdusters, Gabe Wilcher who has performed as a sideman to everyone from Bela Fleck to Loggins & Messina, and bassist Paul Kowert. The group has had a strong presence in this area with its long-time residency at Oberlin Conservatory which happens to be Eldridge’s alma mater.
The group currently has a new album, All Aboard, its fifth full-length disc, released last month. Eldridge says, “These songs hadn’t been played live before. They were played for the first time in the studio.”
So fans will hear something new as they hit the stage on their current tour, which brings them to Cain Park in Cleveland Heights. New singer/songwriter Madison Cunningham, who released her debut album Love, Lose, Remember last year, opens.
Tickets are $25-$53.
