CAN Triennial Offers Second Art Fair Weekend and More Music Performances

Thu 7/19-Sun 7/22

It’s a big weekend for the CAN Triennial at 78th Street Studios.

For one thing, it’s the second (and final) weekend of the CAN Art Fair where galleries and art organizations from Cleveland and beyond — as far away as Cincinnati — will be showing and selling art in various media by many more artists than just those selected for the official showing. It will be open Fri 7/20 @ 5-9pm (during the regular Third Friday hours) and Sat 7/21 and Sun 7/22 @ noon-6pm.

Then, check out its month-long series of music presentations, starting with experimental Thursdays featuring Kris Morron on guzheng, a Chinese zither-style instrument, & Stephan Haluska on harp, and Matt Kiroff’s The Pith & Root of Sleep (pictured), which mingles movement and visuals with improvisational music rooted in free jazz and avant-garde classical music.

On Classical Fridays, the Cleveland Cello Quartet, a new ensemble comprising four women musicians, will play in the Gallery Pavilion, and on Jazz Saturdays, the Chris Burge Ensemble, led by Blue Lunch saxophonist Burge, will play there. All music starts at 7pm, and it’s all free.
