Fifteen-year-old Teeba Furat Marlowe’s story puts most whiny teenagers to shame.
The Iraqi-born youngster was nearly a casualty of the U.S. invasion of her country in 2003 when an explosive blew up the vehicle she was riding in. Her three-year-old brother was killed and 19-month-old Teeba suffered severe burns.
But her story took a dramatic turn for the better when a Baghdad-based journalist wrote about her and guardian angel Barbara Marlowe brought her to Cleveland for treatment at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital when she was five.
Since then she’s had multiple surgeries and she’s now an A+ freshman student at Notre Dame Catholic Latin High School with plans to go to medical school and become a pediatric anesthesiologist.
Teeba will tell her story and answer questions at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage. Tickets are $12 for the general public, $6 for Maltz Museum members. Reserve tickets here.
