Pierogies have come to be virtually Cleveland’s signature food, being native to a host of Eastern European countries such as Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania which have sent many immigrants to northeast Ohio. And with the renewed interest in the area’s ethnic roots, pierogies are seeing a resurgence as well with creative fillings well beyond the traditional potato, cheese and ground meat.
This week at the Coit Road Farmers Market, you can learn to make these filled pockets of dough yourself at one of its regular demonstration/workshops. You’ll have a chance to try it for yourself and even do a little tasting. And they always try to use as much food available at the market as possible so you can go and purchase the ingredients and make more at home.
The market is open every Saturday from 8am-1pm. Demos usually start around 10 or 11.
