The @CantonMuseum of Art Opens Show of Work by Cleveland Ceramicist Kristen Cliffel

Kristen Cliffel

Thu 12/10 @ 6-8PM

Cleveland artist Kristen Cliffel is technically a ceramicist but not like most of the ones you see around. She uses clay as a medium to sculpt personal but open-ended narratives about women’s lives that often veer into the fantastical, whimsical and even humorous, drawing on popular culture and fairy-tale imagery.

Her work has been seen around Cleveland at galleries such as the former William Busta Gallery., as well as in Columbus, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Banff, Alberta. Now there’s a new exhibit of her work, Out of the Woods and Into the Ring: Clay Sculptures, at the Canton Art Museum.

There’ll be a reception tonight for Cliffel’s show and two others which have just opened: Moving Toward the Light by scenic watercolorist Joseph Raffael and Blue Collar: Figurative Sculptures by twin brothers Kyle and Kelly Phelps.

The member preview runs from 6-8pm; Cliffel and the Phelpses will talk at 6:30. A free public opens follows from 7-8pm. All three shows run through 3/6/16.
