Author Talks About Watershed Events of January 1973 @HudsonLibr and Historical Society

January1973

Wed 11/11 @ 7PM

January 1973 was an eventful month on the national scene, with a flurry of events that had long-ranging impact or else signaled major transition in our country. Former president Lyndon Johnson died, just as his successor Richard Nixon negotiated the pact that brought down the curtain on the Vietnam War which had proved Johnson’s undoing. In that same month, the men who burgled Democratic headquarters at the Watergate Hotel went on trial which blew the scandal wide open, leading to the revelation of Nixon’s involvement and his eventual political demise as well.

And on January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision in the case of Roe v. Wade, a crucial step in assuring that women had the freedom to control their own reproduction and hence, their lives. (Sadly, that liberty has come under new assault today).’

Cleveland trial lawyer, author and Watergate expert James Robenalt tied all those events together in his book 1973: Watergate, Roe v. Wade, Vietnam, and the Month That Changed America Forever, using recently released Nixon tapes to bring more insight to what was going on during that tumultuous time.

He’ll be appearing at the Hudson Library and Historical Society, where he’ll sign copies of the book. They’ll be available for purchase courtesy of Hudson’s Learned Owl Book Shop. It’s free; you can register or get more information here.
