Why would developmental psychologist Dr. Paul Crowe, call himself “Crusty Booger”? That’s his name when he assumes his alternative identity as the guitarist for Chicago-based kid punk band the Boogers.

He formed the group aka “the world’s most dangerous kid’s band” in 2008 along with bassist Dave Leffel (“Greenie Booger”) and drummer Rich Reichert (“Sticky Boogie”) to play children’s music that was innocently naughty and didn’t hit kids over the head with cloying, ham-handed messages about sharing and being nice to your sister.

The whole family should be laughing as the band blasts out its punk-based rock ’n’ roll — what they describe as “The Ramones meet Mother Goose” — twisting familiar children’s tunes like “The Itsy Bitsy Spider,” “Pop Goes the Weasel” and “London Bridge” into the sort of moshpit fare you never heard when you were young. It’s kinda educational, but mostly it’s a good time.

Tickets are only $10 or $30 for a four-pack. Bring extra money because they have supercute T-shirts in kids sizes.
