KMFDM has been making some of the slyest and most irresistible industrial rock like, forever. OK, not quite forever, just since 1984. But they were one of the pioneers of the abrasive but hypnotic style that broke through to the mainstream in the early ’90s, largely thanks to the success of Trent Reznor’s 1989 Pretty Hate Machine, recorded while he was living in Cleveland.
But KMFDM, basically founder Sascha Konietzko and various partners in crime who have changed over the years along with the band’s home base, aren’t about “I’m miserable scum and I want to die” like a lot of the NIN wannabes. Instead, they leaven their thunderous beats with social, cultural and political commentary satire that’s genuinely humorous while conveying a serious message against violence, oppression and bigotry.
They’re returning to the House of Blues on their Salvation tour, with Austin-based tribal/industrial drum band Chant opening.
Tickets are $23 in advance, $25 at the door.
