Nora Jane Struthers & the Party Line have been in and out of the area a bunch of times over the last two years, playing an assortment of venues. Now they’re landing a one that’s a perfect fit for their crisp, folksy Americana music: the Beachland Tavern.
Band leader Struthers is a former English teacher who decided almost seven years ago to focus on building a music career, based on her sympathetically observed bluegrass-influenced tunes and unfussy soprano. A first-place win at the 2010 Telluride Bluegrass Festival caused a lot of people to start keeping an eye on her, and the band’s extensive touring, coupled with a pair of appealing albums, earned them a following.
Recently, Struthers easily cleared and exceeded her $40,000 Kickstarter goal to fund the February 2015 release of the band’s third album Wake.
The opening act is well worth catching too. The country/bluegrass duo of Valerie and David Mayfield launched the careers of indie roots rockers Jessica Lea Mayfield and the David Mayfield Parade: they’re their parents. With the kids flying on their own, David and Valerie have rededicated themselves to their own career.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
