This is huge.
OneCommunity just received federal funding to help build the first 100-gigabit commercial fiber network in the nation.
From PlayhouseSquare to University Circle, along Cleveland’s Health Tech Corridor, OneCommunity will lay a “fat pipe” of fiber, moving internet traffic from the current 40 gigabits per second, to a rate of 100 gigabits, more than 300 times faster than your average residential speed, and faster than anywhere else in the United States.
CoolCleveland spoke with Jay Williams, Assistant Secretary of Commerce and former mayor of Youngstown, about the convergence of health care, high tech and big data, and what it means for economic development and jobs. “This is groundbreaking.” View the video here.
“We’re building a network for the art of the possible,” says OneCommunity CEO Lev Gonick.
