Mozart Concerto, Shostakovich Symphony On @CleveOrchestra Blossom Program

Sun 7/20 @ 7PM

Tonight at Blossom Music Center, the Cleveland Orchestra falls back on two of most people’s favorite composers — Mozart and Shostakovich.

What’s interesting about the program though is the mingling of widely separated musical generations.

Ninety-year-old Ukrainian conductor Stanislaw Skrowaczewski will lead the orchestra as it plays Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27. He first conducted the Cleveland Orchestra in the late ’50s. He certainly won’t see any of the same faces in front of him.

The soloist in the concerto is Francesco Piemontesi (pictured), almost a third Skrowaczewski’s age. The 31-year-old Swiss-Italian pianist has been burning up concert stages for the last four or five years and is releasing his second album this year.

Tickets are $23-$85.
