Leave it to Les Claypool to do something totally off the wall. He’s the mastermind behind Primus, the band that launched a thousand — or more — ambitious young funky prog-rock bands, who tried to show off their cops by emulating Primus’ eccentric whiplash sound, driven by Claypool’s ricocheting bass.
The restless musician has been involved in a variety of collaborations and side projects including Duo de Twang. He formed the country duo with guitarist Bryan Kehoe in 2012, originally as a one-time thing. Now they have a newly released album Four Foot Shack, a hodge-podge of stripped-down version of unexpected covers (a folk-country version of Alice in Chains’ “Man in a Box” !?) and Claypool’s own tunes, among the a completely re-imagined version of fan favorite “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver.”
Duo de Twang has also hit the road for a national tour; they’ll be stopping at the Kent Stage.
Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door.
