If an obscure punk band from Finland hits town, you know where to find them: they’re probably going to be at Now That’s Class.
That’s where Sokea Piste, a self-described “murderous crush of perversity, paranoia and naked, twisted visions of blind rage, solitary insanity and silent, thoughtful violence,” is playing this week. And we figure if a band is going to come that far to play tiny dives in the U.S., they deserve an upfront mention.
One of their punk gestures is to sing all their material in Finnish. It gives their tunes a strangeness that transcends any well-worn stock punk riffs and bleats they trot out. A tune like “Vieraantuneet, sopeutuneet” sounds on the surface like a thousand other punk rock tunes you’ve heard but come on — it’s called “Vieraantuneet, sopeutuneet,” and you have not heard THAT lyric before.
You can give some of their tunes a listen here.
They’ll be joined at Now That’s Class by Cleveland’s Swirly in the Fryer and the breakout band from the 2013 Lottery League, Queen of Hell.
Admission is $5.
