Nickel Plate Beach sits at the mouth of the Huron River, where the Nickel Plate Pier marks the east edge of the harbor. The sand here is sugar-fine and the beach is wide, with a wild, undeveloped edge that sets it apart from most lakefront spots.
It’s free and open to the public, with the Paddle Shack renting floaties and beach gear Memorial Day through Labor Day. Parking is paid during summer season. The beach has multiple volleyball courts and a scenic view of the Huron Lighthouse. The water is shallow with a sandy bottom and lots of space to play and swim.
Nickel Plate Beach is one of the finest stretches of sand on the lake.
