Internationally noted percussionist Jamey Haddad is another of those top-caliber jazz musicians spawned in Cleveland. He moved on to New York (where he lived for a couple of decades) to find fame and fortune and then moved back home to enjoy it. He’s now head of jazz studies at Oberlin and still a busy, in-demand musician.
With his keen interest in a vast variety of percussion instruments from around the world, he’s also an inventor of instruments. His most recent creation is the Hadphoon, which he says “looks like a shot of a Typhoon from space.”
He says, “The Hadphoon is sort of indestructible. It can slip into your cymbal bag and without any set-up can offer some fun options whether you are playing drum set or percussion. I demo it sitting on a frame drum in the clip, but it takes on a totally different sound depending on the host drum you place it on.”
They’ll be shipped next month, but you can order one now for $150. He’s made only 100 so if you’re interested check it out now.
