There’s a new band on the local roots/alt-country scene. Formed earlier this year, Blackgrass Baptism includes Brother Ant Petti from Uncle Scratch’s Gospel Revival on harmonica and vocals, Carol Schulien aka Miss Firecracker on vocals and assorted other instruments, Pete Wildman on drums and percussion, Greg Kells on banjo and mandolin, and “Lux Posterior” on bass.
The group cites a variety of dark and dirty folk, country and rock acts as inspirations, including 16 Horsepower, Leonard Cohen, the Avett Brother, Earl Lee Grace, Tom Waits, and the Dwarves.
They’re headlining at Now That’s Class. Admission is $5. Misery Jackals and Dutch Babies open.
