Samothrace Brings Ambient Doom Metal to Now That’s Class

Tue 3/5 @ 9PM

Seattle-based quartet Samothrace plays doom metal that’s not as unrelentingly turgid as most bands in that genre. Rising and falling waves of often spare, delicate guitar sweep the music along its inexorable course, while the distant, howling, inarticulate vocals borrow a few tricks from Scandanavian black metal. Last year’s Reverence to Stone featured a mere pair of tracks. But one clocked in a 14:21, the other at 20:28.  And those tracks take a listener on an epic and treacherous journey.

They’re at Now That’s Class with Pilgrim, Red Sun and Locktender opening. “Plus Vegan Cheesesteaks,” the club promises — and what goes better with doom metal than that? (Every Tuesday is Vegan Night at Now That’s Class, regardless of what’s playing). Admission is $7.
